Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Beginners is the class that we require all students who are new to the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu to first attend. Here we focus on learning the basic movements and skills that are essential to progressing in jiu-jitsu and establishing a balanced game. A typical 60 minute class consists of a light warm-up (which includes breakfalls, safety get-ups, and hip escapes), 10 minutes of stretching, observing and drilling techniques involving various submissions, sweeps, escapes, takedowns, etc., then occasionally ending with specific training (a drill that simulates live sparring). Currently new students may begin attending Advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes after earning their third white belt stripe. For committed students this level can typically be achieved within 6-9 months.
